Every night, I go to lock the chickens in their coop at around dusk-night. And it is absolutely terrifying. Not because of the chickens, but because I live outside of the city in a deep forest. And I own an acre of land. And every night, though it may sound ridiculous, I swear that I can see something in the corner of my eye. Watching me as I turn my back away as I walk towards the house. All the background noise fades. When I’m out there, I hope that my footsteps are the only thing I can hear, my flashlight beam is the only thing I can see, and I’m the only one.
